Rome is a city of remarkable colour and light, buildings, and artworks. And, of course, it is the city of the Romans (populusque Romanorum).
It is also Tosca-town. The first words of Puccini's doomed painter-hero, uttered in the church of Sant'Andrea delle Valle in the Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, are "Dammi i Colori" ("Give me the colours"). Hard to walk far in Rome without hearing a theme or two from Tosca drifting to mind.
